On March 2, 2013, the 18th annual Roman Catholic Mass with Dixieland-style music took place at 4 pm in San Carlos Cathedral, Church and Figueroa Streets in Monterey. Accompanying the Choir, directed by Karen Lips, were the Bye Bye Blues Boys, led by Don Irving. Pianist was Elaine Miller, cantor was Arlala Sheppard, and Jane Gasperson's liturgical dancers helped with sacred gesture.
On Sunday, March 3, Mark Sowlakis, San Francisco clarinetist joined the morning liturgies with his inimitable jazz flourishes. Mark has just released a new recording, "Universal Truths," which was recorded in art inside our beautiful Cathedral. Mark considers the acoustic at San Carlos to be among, if not the, most ideal space in which he has had the pleasure to play. Mark also included a track of the Cathedral's bells chiming.
