While grieving is normal and natural, as Christians we know that death is not the end of life. Through His suffering, death and resurrection from death Jesus Christ opens the gates of heaven to all those who believe in him, to live eternally.
The first step is to contact one of our friendly mortuary director. While there, call our office to make sure that the date/time of the service is good for mortuary, clergy, church, and cemetery.
List of local mortuaries:
- Mission Mortuary; 450 Camino El Estero, Monterey. Tel: (831) 375-4129
- Bermudez Family, Cremation & Funerals. 475 Washington St., A, Monterey. Tel: (831) 324-0404
- The Paul Mortuary; 390 Lighthouse Avenue, Pacific Grove. Tel: (831) 375-4191
Afterwards call our office and make an appointment with the presiding priest. Currently we have Fr. Emil Robu (Pastor/Rector), Fr. Ommar Solis (Associate Pastor) and Fr. Patrick Dooling (in residence). They will guide you in preparing a spirit-lifting vigil, funeral service/Mass and graveside service. We will also give you information about music and the possibility of using our cathedral hall for reception.
We celebrate funerals for everyone, parishioners and non-parishioners. There is a church fee of $400 per funeral service payable to San Carlos Cathedral. If the family cannot afford this amount then you can give a free donation. Please know that we will do the funeral service for free if the family experience great financial difficulties.
May the souls of all of our beloved deceased, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. With prayers for strength and hope,
Fr. Emil Robu, Pastor/Rector
