San Carlos Opens a Food Pantry

Food Pantry

Let’s Join Together in Feeding the Poor!

Loaves and Fishes Ministry was launched a little over fourteen years ago in response to the needs of the homeless population of our community. The ministry has provided the homeless with two meals, a sack lunch, as well as blankets, clothing and toiletries items each week. Loaves and Fishes has also been providing food bags and limited monetary assistance for things such as utilities to those in need who come to the parish office.

The ministry is now undergoing a significant expansion of its operation, and late this summer it will open a food pantry to serve adults and families who are struggling to put food on the table, or who are facing utility shutoffs or other short-term monetary crises. Your generous contributions to Loaves and Fishes are making this expansion possible.

The Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry will be located at 580 Fremont Street, directly behind the Cathedral and next to El Estero Car Wash. This space is owned by the Diocese and is graciously being offered to San Carlos for this important ministry. We have a tentative opening date of September 4, 2012. This is an a significant outreach undertaking by the San Carlos community, and we will be asking for your support in the coming weeks to help us put the pantry’s infrastructure in place. We will also begin a recruitment drive for volunteers to staff the pantry that will initially be open two days each week. Please consider how you may help make this much need outreach project successful.

San Carlos Parish is a community committed to living the Gospel, not just through words, but through actions as well. Please join us as we work to put into practice what Christ teaches. See the Parish Bulletin in the coming weeks for more details.
