Dear Friends in Christ,
Earlier this summer, you read in a previous bulletin letter about plans for our parish to begin an additional Spanish/English weekend mass. As pastor realizing this need, this has been a part of my vision for this parish for years, and was confirmed through the parish planning pro- cess culminating with our Parish Summit in January 2013. This new, additional mass will be offered at 6pm on Saturdays.
San Carlos Cathedral Parish prides itself on being a welcoming family of faith. While we share hospitality with those who come to our parish, we must also look around to see which Catholics are not participating, and ask ourselves what may be keeping them away. Pope Francis would refer to this disposition of concern as the “New Evangelization.”
Just within our Religious Education program at least half of the chil- dren’s parent are primarily Spanish speaking. They often strive to do the best they can to utilize their limited English skills. They earnestly desire to have their families grow in faith by participating in parish life. Hopefully this additional mass with be a sign of welcome and a better opportunity for members of our parish to comprehend the mass and allow them to be better integrated into our parish family.
With the help of Fr Ommar Solis’ talents, our hope is to begin this new worship opportunity on Saturday, September 5, 2015. Please keep this endeavor in your prayers and help us spread the news of this new option for worship.
The Church, Christ’s Mystical Body, has many parts! Within its diver- sity comes much beauty. For over 200 years this parish has welcomed and ministered to people of a number of different cultures and lan- guages. May our parish keep growing in its hospitality and ministries to better reflect the universality of God’s family; many peoples, many cultures, many languages, yet all one in our Lord Jesus Christ!
