On August 27, 2006, Pope Benedict XVI called for a commitment to care for creation. He said creation is “exposed to serious risks by life choices and life-styles that can degrade it”. In particular, he said, “environmental degradation makes the lives of the poor especially unbearable.”
“Jesus Christ is a gift given because “God so loved the world”. Christ’s benefits are intended not just for the human world, but the whole natural world in its beauty and pollution, its wonder and distress.” Elizabeth A Johnson, C.S.J
“Ours is not the task of fixing the entire world at once, but of stretching out to mend the part of the world that is within our reach.” Clarissa Pinkola Estes
Care for Creation is a San Carlos Parish ministry that invites all interested persons to consider practicing stewardship in all parts of their lives. We start by acknowledging the Christian Belief that caring for all that God created is a part of how we practice our faith.
The photographs on this page are of the “Stations of the Cross with all of Creation” designed by the Intercommunity Peace and Justice Center. Through readings at each station the group was able to contemplate the Stations of the Cross but also examine both role in the earth’s devastation as well as our healing role as we care, and repair the damage that has been done.
Meetings are held on the second Thursday of the month in the Parish Office at 7pm.
