San Carlos’ Appreciative Inquiry process is best described as the exploration of San Carlos at its best–both past and present, an affirmation of what we already do well, and a search for new ways to use these inherent strengths to shape the future of our community. We began this process last summer with individual interviews. To date over 100 parishioners have participated in the interview process, and from those interviews the title and theme of the Parish Summit were established:
Shaping the Future at a Table of Profound Gratitude and Boundless Generosity
- Welcoming all people with radical hospitality
- Forming old and young in the Gospel and the Church’s Traditions
- Heeding the voices of the youth
- Deepening our compassion through outreach, service, and ecumenical partnerships
Our Parish Summit: Shaping the Future at a Table of Profound Gratitude and Boundless Generosity took place on the evening of Friday, January 25 and all day Saturday, January 26, 2013. All parishioners were invited to attend, and were asked to commit to attending the Summit in its entirety.
During the Summit we continued to explore the strengths, or Positive Core, of our Community, discovered and discussed our dreams for San Carlos’ future, and began designing how this future would take shape.
The Summit was facilitated by Dr. Frank Barrett and Ms. Sarah Johnson, both renowned experts in the Appreciative Inquiry process. Self-managed small groups of eight people were empowered to discover, dream, design, and propose specific plans and action initiatives.
San Carlos has launched Appreciative Inquiry (AI), a bold and exciting process that allows us to look at our parish in a new and interesting way.
